Nephrology Mentorship In India

This is an idea whose time has come & hence MKF is initiating a mentorship program which aims at matching the mentors with the mentees. This will go a long way in fulfilling the unmet needs of early career Nephrologists as they need a bit of hand-holding & personalized guidance in the initial days of their practice. We all know that there is a surfeit of academic online teaching and training programs including FOAMED resources. But there is a need for focused & personalized discussions, especially on career-related topics including financial planning, life hacks, medico legal issues & practice development. In short it is all about ‘nephrology beyond classroom’. To understand the requirements of this group we conducted a nationwide survey amongst all young nephrons (doing DM/DNB or completed nephrology within the last two years) spanning most nephrology institutes of major government & private hospitals & medical colleges of the country.

This survey confirmed our belief that some form of a mentorship program is indeed the need of the hour. So we at the MKF have selected a few key topics and areas requiring discussion & guidance. We have made short 30-minute video modules for important topics which have been uploaded on this website. We also plan to have face-to-face meetings/Group Discussions/Panel Discussions in which young nephrologists can interact with senior Nephrologists who are willing to be mentors. In addition, one-to-one discreet discussions and specific problem solving regarding professional issues is also possible.
Fortunately we at the MKF have been blessed to have the services of senior members who are more than willing to join hands in this endeavor to guide the young Nephrons. We are looking forward to a fruitful mentor- mentee association.
