MKF Evervital Research Grant

INTRODUCTION

The Mumbai Kidney Foundation strives to encourage research in Nephrology, as a part of its academic initiatives of Mumbai Kidney Foundation. Every year, the society will award 1-3 Research Grants upto a total  amount of Rs 5 lakhs to nephrologists of India for doing research on nephrology diseases affecting India, Novel diseases, community problems in nephrology or nephrology education.  

The nephrologist will have to apply for with a detailed research proposal. The proposals will be peer reviewed and finally evaluated by a esteemed faculty jury, based on the merits of the proposal. Research is encouraged from young nephrologist from less recognised state level government or private institutions without access to high quality research facilities or infrastructure.

This survey confirmed our belief that some form of a mentorship program is indeed the need of the hour. So we at the MKF have selected a few key topics and areas requiring discussion & guidance. We have made short 30-minute video modules for important topics which have been uploaded on this website. We also plan to have face-to-face meetings/Group Discussions/Panel Discussions in which young nephrologists can interact with senior Nephrologists who are willing to be mentors. In addition, one-to-one discreet discussions and specific problem solving regarding professional issues is also possible.
Fortunately we at the MKF have been blessed to have the services of senior members who are more than willing to join hands in this endeavor to guide the young Nephrons. We are looking forward to a fruitful mentor- mentee association.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. The MKF will provide 1-3 research projects each year with research grants of 1-3 lakhs each (upto a total of 5 lakhs per years).
  2. The research may be done in any field of nephrology.
  3. The research project may be completed over a period of 1-3 years.
  4. The researcher will have to submit a complete project report at the end of the project, within 03 months of completion of research.
  5. The Principal Investigator will have submit a detailed breakdown of financial requirement with the proposal, and will have to furnish expenditure details of the research expenses.
  6. The Principal Investigator is to follow all guidelines for conduct of research including approval of Ethics Committee, Code of Conduct for research, and other ICMR Guidelines laid down by Government.
  7. The MKF will bear no responsibility for any faculty in research or any other patient adverse effects with the research.
  8. The Principal Investigator may publish the research work in a desired journal only after taking written approval from MKF Academy.

ELIGIBILTY FOR RESEARCH

  1. The Principal Investigator should be a Nephrologist (DM, DNB or Fellowship in Nephrology).
  2. Physicians or other allied specialities like nephropathologists, immune-pathologists, kidney transplant surgeons, dialysis physicians, dieticians and others may apply, but they should have a Nephrologist as Co-PI.

  3.  The Researcher should have conducted extramural projects in the past and should have published articles in peer reviewed journals as First/Corresponding author.

  4. Only 1 grant will be awarded to a person each year.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. The Principal Investigator may submit a research proposal with the following details
  • Name, Photograph, DOB, Age, Sex, DM/DNB Institute & year of passing, Present Designation & Institute, Nephrology Work experience, Mobile number, Email.
  • Details of previous research projects done, Funding agency, grant amount.
  • List of publications.
  • Detailed Research proposal – Title, Aims/Objectives, Introduction, Knowledge Gap & Scope, Study design, Methodology in detail, Significance/Feasibility/Outcomes of research, References.
  • Budget needed – Anticipated expenses (with detailed breakdown, market survey of quotes, contingencies expenses etc), avoiding the inclusion of IT/office/audio visual equipment etc.

SELECTION

  1. The selection of research proposals will be done by esteemed faculty team of MKF based on the Investigator details, merit of research proposal and its significance.
  2. The decision of MKF will be final.
